The Ennismore Library is receiving a new, updated look, therefore, the library will be temporarily closing until Monday, Sept 13th.  The Library will be more accessible to the entire community, plus, fresh paint, new carpeting, improvements to the air quality and a modern décor.  Later this fall, repairs to the exterior brickwork are scheduled to take place.

Sept 112nd Annual Northern Lyte's Strongman Contest at Legion Park, Coboconk.  Registration starts at 9am; games start at 11am.  Spectators are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation or cash donations as all proceeds are donated to the Coboconk Food Bank.  A new women’s class has been added this year.  The local fire department is also involved, BBQ burgers and sausages and drinks for sale on site.  Events include: log press, farmers walk, deadlift, tire flip, truck pull, and atlas stones.

Sept 11 –There’s still time for young musicians to sign up for the Kawartha Youth Orchestra’s 2010/2011 Season. Sept 12Out of the Ashes Free Opening Day at the Scugog Shores Heritage Centre and Archives , 1655 Reach St., Port Perry from 1-4pm to celebrate the 125th  anniversary of the rebuilding of Port Perry after the July 4, 1884 horrific fire spread through the town destroying much of the downtown core.   Come and see how local artists have interpreted the emotional impact, personal loss, and community strength that such an experience presented to the town and its citizens.  All original pieces of art will also be available for sale when the exhibit closes.  Runs until November 7th

Sept 16Hospice Peterborough Palliative Care Volunteer Training starts Sept 16th for 10 weeks - a  30-hour course for people interested in providing support for individuals living with life-threatening illness. The course explores issues related to death and dying, supporting people who are grieving and care for the caregiver. Oct 15/16, 22/23Spooky Halloween at Lang Pioneer Village from 6pm-9pm.  The Village transforms itself into a haunted haven for ghosts and ghouls! Witches and vampires, bats and spiders, they're all coming out to give you a frightfully good time!  Dress in costume if you like and be prepared to enjoy ghastly treats, Halloween games and contests, crafts, wagon rides, a magic show by J.B. Buttons, face painting and palm reading.  Lot's of fun for monsters of all ages!  Special Event Admission: Adult $10, Student/Senior $9, Youth (2-14) $6, Under 2 Free, Family Pass $30 (includes 2 adults & 4 youth) All taxes included.

Oct 16 – The 6th Annual Cavan Hills Country Run takes place from 8am-noon.  Three races: 10K Walk, a 10K Run, and a 4K Run/Walk.  Participants will enjoy a challenging race course, scenic countryside, and post-race hospitality.  Registration, brochures, and pledge sheets are available at the Peterborough Running Room store on Hunter Street West or online at www.runningroom.com  For further information email cavanrun@yahoo.ca  or telephone Sandy at 705-740-9620.  Funds raised will support Homegrown Homes, Peterborough and other local organizations.
